Cathy Dees, 69 of Lake City, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 at Shands Hospital at the University of FL in Gainesville. She was born and raised in Lafayette County, FL to the late Raymond and Ruby Barber Land. Mrs. Dees had made her home in Lake City since 1972 having lived previously in Live Oak for a short time. She was a Registered Nurse and had worked many years for Dr. Charles Ozaki in Lake City and then retired from the Columbia County Health Department in 2011. Mrs. Dees was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed reading, caring for her cats and spending time being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Stephanie Land.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Eugene E. Dees, Lake City; two sons, Timothy Dees (Michelle), Panama City and Thomas Dees, Orlando; one daughter, Tara Dees Tate, Lake City; two brothers, Richard Land (Mary), Lake City and Keith Land (Reba), Alachua; and three grandsons, Nicholas Tate, Camp Humphries, South Korea, Kory Tate (Ashton), Washington, D.C. and Kameron Tate, Lake City.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Gateway-Forest Lawn Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dustin Busscher officiating. Interment will follow at Land Cemetery in Mayo, FL at 2 p.m. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Suwannee Valley Humane Society at 1156 SE Bisbee Loop, Madison, FL 32340 in memory of Mrs. Dees.
