Demetria Martha Hewitt, 83, passed away on Dec. 26, 2016 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. Demetria was born Feb. 22, 1933 in Cross City, Florida to Mr. Dewey Herman Shaw and Edna Katherine Raulerson Shaw. Mrs. Hewitt was of the Church of God faith and was a member of Alton Church of God. Demetria worked as a proof operator with Barnett Bank for more than 38 years and in her spare time enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cross stitching, gardening, and more than all else, spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Herman Elvoy Hewitt; her parents, Dewey Herman Shaw and Edna Katherine Shaw; two daughters, Martha Ann Land and Debra Anita Hawkins; and one son, Louis Elvoy Hewitt.
Mrs. Hewitt is survived by one daughter, Angela Katherine Lady, of Cumming, GA; one brother, Herman Shaw, of Mayo; three sisters, Freida Chesser, Malinda Morgan, both of Mayo, and Gail Henderson, of Jacksonville, FL; two son-in-laws, Donnie Land, of Mayo, and Jimmy Hawkins, of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Duane, Darren, and Deanna Land, and Olivia and Autumn Hawkins; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Vega, and Reese and Czarina Land, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at the Alton Family Life Center with Bro. Tim Hamm officiating. Interment followed in Alton Cemetery. The family received friends on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 also at the Alton Family Life Center.
