Harold's Story

Harold L. Smith, 88, of Mayo, FL passed away on August 18, 2017. Harold was born and raised in Mayo where he worked as a farmer and a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He earned a purple heart and bronze star while serving as a 1st Lt. in the Korean War. Harold loved working outside, especially taking care of his yard and pine trees. He was a long time member and deacon at Brewer Lake Baptist Church. He was also active in many civic organizations.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Jeanette Smith; his parents: Madison & Vennie Smith; and three brothers: Louis Smith, R. Govan Smith & Hugh Smith.
Harold is survived by his daughter: Betina & Rick Hurst; son: Randall & Robin Smith; sisters: Elouise Green and Helen & Clark Hingson; brother: Wayman & Joan Smith; four grandchildren: Logan & Cassie Hurst; Samantha & Joey Chamberlain; Lauren & Jordan Daniels; Cameron Smith; and five great-grandchildren: Josiah & Nina Daniels, Madison, Bria & Abigail Chamberlain.
Services were held at Brewer Lake Baptist Church on August 20, 2017. Interment followed in Day Cemetery with military honors.
