Levis Odom, 78, a lifelong resident of Mayo, Fla., passed away at his home Friday April 8, 2016. Levis was born November 17, 1937 in Mayo to the late Leroy and Cloie Rebecca Pearson Odom. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School where he played basketball and football. Later he was an LHS Athletic Booster and donated the blocks and concrete for the football field bleachers. Levis was a member of the Alton Church of God and a charter member of the Lafayette Quarterback club where he was an active participant for many years. He served on the Lafayette County Development Authority for 6 years and was also a member of the Lafayette Agriculture Stabilization Committee (ASC) for 4 years. He also served on the University of Florida Presidential Committee for 12 years. Levis worked as a salesman for Rountree-Moore Ford in Lake City for 25 years, where he sold countless cars and trucks to his many friends, neighbors and customers. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sports and activities. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching Gator football, fishing, hunting, shooting and cooking.
He is survived by; his wife of 58 years, Bonnie Odom; 2 daughters, Patrice Jackson and husband Kevin, of Mayo and Cosette Bell and husband Kerwin, of Valdosta, Ga.; 4 sisters, Helen Shaw (Herman), Irma Lee Blue (Calvin), Delania Byrd (J.W.) and Patricia Perry (M.A.), all of Mayo, 6 grandchildren, Courtney, Kade, Kolton, Bayley, Kenzley and Destiney, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Levis will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday April 10 at the Alton Church of God with Sis. Teri Winters, Bro. Tim Hamm and Bro. Ronnie Sadler officiating. Interment will follow in Alton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. prior to the service, also at Alton Church of God. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
