James Avner "Ab" Wimberley

Mr. James Avner "Ab" Wimberley, 91, of Mayo, FL, passed away on December 6, 2017 at his home following an extended illness. "Ab" was born November 28, 1926 in to James Riley Wimberley and Orrie Jackson Wimberley. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Airline Baptist Church. He retired as the superintendent of the Lafayette County Road department after 42 years of service. "Ab" was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, gardening, riding the local roads, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Thomas Franklin Wimberley and James Mertic Wimberley.
He is survived by; his wife of 66 years, Wanda Jeanette Wimberley; his son, Kenneth "Kenny" Wimberley, and wife Midge; his daughter, Barbara "Bob" McCray, and husband "Bunk", all of Mayo; 1 brother, Thomas Elton Wimberley, of Mayo; 5 grandchildren, Kimberley Wandada Wimberley Miller (Phillip), of White Springs, FL, Alicia McCray Poole (Dwight), of Mayo, and Master Sgt. Robert Michael McCray, of Wedgefield, S.C., Aubrey Land (Denise), of Mayo, and Al Land, of Mayo; 7 great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Phillip, Taylor, Hannah, Christian, Micah, and Morgan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Saturday December 9, 2017 at Airline Baptist Church with Bro. Bruce Branche, Bro. Lamar "Cooter" McCray, and Bro. Tim Hamm officiating. Interment will follow in Airline Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Friday evening December 8th also at Airline Baptist Church. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
