Mr. John Wendall Rutledge, 82, of Mayo, passed away on September 3, 2018 in Jacksonville, FL. John was born December 18, 1935 in Polk County, FL to James Edward Rutledge and Mary Jane Rutledge. John honorably served our country in the United States Army and was of the Baptist faith. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his working life and enjoyed hunting arrowheads, gardening, and hunting. He was preceded in death by; his parents; 2 sons, Michael and Ivan Rutledge; 1 daughter, Katherine Jenkins; and 2 brothers, James "Tiny" and Abraham Rutledge.
He is survived by; 3 sons, John Wendall Rutledge Jr., Eric Rutledge, and Chris Rutledge; 3 daughters, Phyllis Moore, Myra Corbo, and Holly Rutledge; 1 brother, Edward "Rusty" Rutledge; 6 sisters, Lavond Stein, Mary Higdon, Ila Green, Sue Guess, Ethel Ralph, and Bobbie Jean Smith; as well as a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Burns Funeral Home of Mayo with Bro. Rick James officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
