George Michael Hunter, of Mayo, FL, Mike or Mikey to his friends, passed away shortly after midnight on April 12, 2017 from complications following an emergency surgery to repair an aortic aneurysm. Mike was from Castleberry, AL, had resided in Mayo for several years, where he was a care giver for an elderly family friend with Alzheimer's. He also dabbled in automotive upholstery, which was the career he retired from. He was known for his street rod interiors, and some of his work may be seen on his old website, http://customrodinteriors.com. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne division of the Army, he saw combat in the Dominican Republic. Mike was a kindhearted generous people person and always willing to lend a helping hand, or to stir up a heated debate on just about any topic. He was an avid reader of both fiction and news, his favorites being the Manchester Guardian Weekly and The Nation. Watching movies was his favorite past time, and he was extremely proud of his collection. He is survived by his mother, Louise Tanner Hunter of Castleberry, AL, three children, Michael Dustin Hunter and Charlotte Rene Hunter Baggett of Castleberry, AL, and Michael Vincent Dodge Hunter of Essen, Germany, two grandchildren, one great grandchild and another on the way. He will be dearly missed by both family and friends alike, most particularly by Vivian Walsh of Clonmel, Ireland, who has been cared for day and night by Mike since Vivian moved to Mayo. We are all bolstered by the knowledge that Mike lived life to the fullest, in his own way, and squeezed every drop of enjoyment out of each and every day. There will be a Celebration of life held on Thursday, April 27, 2017.
