Ruby's Story

Ruby Ganey Burnette, age 90, passed away Jan. 9, 2017 at NFRMC. She was born in Alton to Dempsey and Ella Ganey and raised in nearby Mayo, FL with her four sisters and brother.
After graduation from FSCW/FSU, she began her teaching career back home in Mayo, where she met her husband of 60 years, Carroll (C.F.) while he was in town on assignment from the State Auditor General's Office. Their subsequent residences included Bushnell, Inverness, Orlando, Tallahassee and Live Oak, where she resumed teaching elementary school grades. Her husband's job transfer in 1966 brought them to Gainesville where she was hired by Cornelius Norton at Sidney Lanier Elementary School, teaching 4th grade until retirement in 1976.
She was preceded in death by her husband C.F., sisters, Leona, Dorothy (Dot) and Hattie. She is survived by son Stan, Gainesville, brother Edsel (Toni), Hialeah and sister, Claudia, Plant City along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Among those whom the family wishes to express their appreciation are the people at SIMED, Accent Physicians, Cardiac and Vascular Institute, NFRMC and Palm Gardens for their care over the years.
In lieu of flowers she requested donations directed to the Advent Christian Village, P O Box 4305, Dowling Park, FL 32067. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care of Forest Meadows Funeral Home, Gainesville, FL.
