Vera's Story

Mrs. Vera Joyce Suggs, 93, passed away on June 7, 2017 in Chiefland, FL following an extended illness. Joyce was born March 4, 1924 in Bicester, England to Mr. Earnest William Clifton and Margaret Amy Garrett Clifton. She was of the Protestant faith and lifelong homemaker. She married Cecil Suggs in England on April 14, 1945 near the end of WWII. Cecil was serving with the 318th Army Medical Station in Middleton Stoney, England which is where Joyce lived at the time. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated herself to serving others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 65 years, Cecil Suggs, and her older sister, Madeline Sands.
She is survived by; 2 sons, Roger Clifton, and wife Ruth, of Lake City, FL, and Robbie Suggs, and wife Donna, of Hatchbend; 2 daughters, Linda Mosley, and husband Frank, of Hatchbend, and Christine Ratliff, and husband Randy, of Live Oak, FL; her twin sister, Kathleen Jenkins, of Bicester, England; 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00AM in Hatchbend Baptist Cemetery on Friday June 9, 2017 with Rev. Steve Boyd officiating. Interment will follow immediately afterwards. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Hospice of Chiefland.
