Waymon's Story

Reverend Waymon Woodrow Thomas, Jr., 63, of Clermont, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on Thursday June 9, 2016 at his residence following an extended illness. Waymon was born September 27, 1952 in Winter Haven, Fla. to Rev. Waymon Woodrow Thomas Sr. and Mary Catherine Pelissero Thomas. He was of the Church of God faith and was a member of Lakeside Church in Oakland, Fla. Waymon was a graduate of Kathleen High School and the University of South Florida. He was a Certified Public Accountant for 41 years and was also an Ordained Minister in the Church of God. He was a tireless minister of the Gospel and impacted the lives of countless people through his ministry. He was the founder of the Alpha Agape Ministries Inc., a charitable organization, which was founded for the purpose of building the Chapel at Mayo Correctional. Following completion of the chapel, Waymon continued using Alpha Agape, which donates Bibles and needed media equipment to prisons, supports missions and various ministries, and administers theological scholarships, to this present day. He ministered to inmates in various prisons in the state of Florida for more than 35 years, founded the Manna House Charity in Mayo, served as a former president of the Mayo Rotary Club, and supported ministry works too numerous to name. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, family member, mentor and friend. He will be greatly missed. Waymon was preceded in death by his parents.
Waymon is survived by; his wife of 41 years, Paula O'Steen Thomas; two daughters, Amanda Thomas Knox, and husband Bruce, of Windermere, Fla., and Jennifer Thomas Browning, and husband Jason, of Cleveland, TN; his sister, Janelle Thomas French, and husband Don, of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ansley, Abigail, and Ava Grace; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday June 13 at the Alton Church of God in Mayo with Pastor Jason Browning and Pastor Jason Hitte officiating. Visitation will be held first from 4-6 p.m. Sunday June 12 at Lakeside Church, in Oakland, Fla., and then from 1-3 p.m. Monday June 13 at Alton Church of God. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alpha Agape Ministries Inc., at 1677 Turnstone Way, Clermont, Fla. 34711. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Mayo.
